HEBRON – Seniors graduating from Hebron Academy on Saturday will receive a bonus along with their diplomas.
Each student will receive a bicentennial pin commemorating them as the class graduating during the school’s 200th anniversary of its founding in 1804.
During the Senior Breakfast on Friday, seniors will sign a special bicentennial register, and they’ll present a time capsule to the school during the baccalaureate Friday afternoon.
The capsule will be entrusted to the class of 2005 to care for until it is buried at the 2005 baccalaureate.
The bicentennial celebration began with a Founders’ Day event in February and continues throughout the year, including special events in October and ending with the graduation of the class of 2005.
National gatherings have also been held this year for alumni, parents and friends of the independent private school in Chicago, Denver, Hartford, Washington, Boston and Portland. Other gatherings are planned for Hamburg, Germany, and New York City.
Guests at the various events are also signing the bicentennial register. The school has similar books from the 100th and 150th anniversaries of the school.
Saturday’s graduation will be outside on the green. If it rains, it will be in Robinson Arena. References to the bicentennial will be made in various addresses given by speakers. Iohn Slattery, 2004 class president, will stand in front of Hupper Library to address the class. The library is dedicated to Roscoe Hupper, class of 1904, who, as valedictorian, spoke to his class 100 years ago.
