PARIS – Shirley S. Miller will be the speaker at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, Sunday, May 23. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Miller will share thoughts on how people share their faith. The organ voluntaries will begin at 9:50. The music will be under the direction of Forest Perkins, church organist.

The Sunday school will be in session and child care is provided. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Choir rehearsal will be a 11:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Parade set

BUCKFIELD – The Buckfield Memorial Day parade will start at the Buckfield Municipal Center at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 31, marching to the village square. Speaker at the World War II Memorial will be Timothy Cooper.

A prayer for all veterans will be given by Past Chaplain James Scrivner. Flowers will be thrown into the river in memory of sailors lost in service to their country.

Parade members will load onto school buses and ride to the Buckfield-Damon Cemetery where a service will be held at a veteran’s grave. Buses will return parade members back to the municipal center.

Piano concert

BERLIN, N.H. – Award-winning pianist/composer Cody Michaels will present a piano concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, at the Community Arts Center, 155 Emery St.

His music is a blend of contemporary classical, jazz, blues, new age and rag. Tickets are $10 at the door.

A native of New England and former park ranger, Michaels is the son of the late jazz pianist Alexander J. Cody. He has had more than 15 years of professional experience in a variety of venues. Most of his material is original with a focus on improvisational.

Medicare advocate

BRIDGTON – Bridgton Hospital will host a volunteer Medicare advocate on-site, sponsored by the Southern Maine Agency on Aging, one day a week, for one-on-one counseling.

No reservations are necessary and is is not necessary to be a senior to use the service. Family, friends and relatives of seniors are invited to take part as well. Bring documents that mighty be helpful for the advocate to review. The service is being offered from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the hospital. Check in with the central registration receptionist.

The Medicare advocate volunteer is Stanley Cohen, a Bridgton resident and retiree, who has been trained by SMAA for the volunteer role. Educated at Boston University, Cohen had a long career as a marketing executive in Cambridge, Mass. Since moving to Maine in 1977, Cohen has been a marina owner, a school business manager and in 2000 retired after a 10-year stint as director of financial operations at Bridgton Academy.
