LOCKE MILLS – The Jackson-Silver Post, American Legion, Auxiliary, with help from the post, is planning a special observance on Saturday, May 29, at the Greenwood Town Hall.

All World War II veterans from West Paris north to Woodstock, Greenwood, Bethel, Newry, Gilead and Milton are invited. A noon lunch of soup, salads, sandwiches and dessert will be served free to World War II veterans and the person who accompanies them. Some entertainment will follow, which will include the barbershop harmony of Four on a Match and some other musical groups.

It is hoped that when the formal dedication takes place in Washington, D.C., at 2 p.m. it can be shown on a large screen TV if one can be borrowed. Cable has been installed at the hall for that purpose. If anyone is willing to loan a TV they are asked to contact the auxiliary.

The auxiliary will accept help from other posts and auxiliaries in the area and other organizations that may wish to take part. Transportations is one thing that may be needed for veterans who might wish to attend but have no way of getting there. The building is handicapped accessible.

In order to judge the amount of food needed, World War II veterans are asked to contact the auxiliary if they would like to attend or need transportation. Call Olive Risko at 665-2909 or the Legion Hall at 875-2375 and leave messages on the answering machines.
