Red Sox put Williamson on DL

The Red Sox placed reliever Scott Williamson on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation and recalled right-hander Anastacio Martinez from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The move was retroactive to Wednesday.

Williamson, 28, has one save and a 1.69 ERA in 14 relief appearances this season.

Martinez, who joined the team in time for Friday night’s game against Toronto, has never appeared in the major leagues. He was 1-2 with a 2.55 ERA in 15 relief appearances in Pawtucket this season, striking out 27 in 24 2-3 innings.
