GARDINER – Junior Kyle Keniston and senior Corey Tielinen cracked a triple apiece for a pair of RBIs each to power Oxford Hills to a 9-4 victory over Gardiner in KVAC baseball action Friday.
The Tigers (10-6) were trailing 9-1 in the last half of the sixth, when Nate Munzing hit a two-run blast. However, the Vikings (13-3) kept the scoring to just one more run in the last frame.
Oxford Hills exploded for four runs in the third and another five in the fifth for all nine of their runs. Pitcher Joe Baker remained undefeated at 5-0 with the victory for the Vikings.
Telstar 5, Dirigo 4
BETHEL – Casey Fleet beat out an infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning, advanced to third on a sacrifice and an error and eventualy scoring on a suicide bunt to propel Telstar to a 5-4 win over Dirigo in MVC baseball Friday.
Kurt Wight laid down a perfect bunt with Fleet charging toward home to give the Rebels (8-4) the victory.
Ryan Savage picked up the win coming on in relief of Ryan Cross (7 strikeouts).
Gary Holman took the loss in relief of starter Brian Knowles.
Mt. Abram 9, Boothbay 3
SALEM – Sterling Pingree had a sacrifice fly for one of his three RBIs to lead Mt. Abram to a 9-3 win over Boothbay in MVC baseball action Friday.
Brandon Wheeler had an excellent outing on the mound for the Roadrunners (8-6), retiring the first 12 batters in the Seahawks’ (6-7) rotation. Frank Hayes relieved Wheeler in the seventh to cut down the last out on a ground ball and notch the save.
The Roadrunners were up 2-0, when in the fourth inning, Boothbay pitcher Ryan Babcock began to tire. He gave up a pair of singles and a walk with an error sandwiched in between, before Pingree plated a run with his sacrifice. Hayes scored the second of four runs in the inning for the eventual game-winner.
Madison 6, Livermore Falls 3
LIVERMORE FALLS – Tony Fortin smashed a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to cement the Madison win over Livermore Falls 6-3.
Justin Watts added an RBI double for the Bulldogs (7-8). Pitchers Randy McMillen of Madison and Livermore Falls’ Dane Hanson went the distance. McMillen struck out 10 batters, while Hanson fanned 13.
The Andies (7-7) were paced by Mike Chemard with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and by Chad Drake who tallied a double and a triple for the losing cause.
Lawrence 4, Mt. Blue 3
FAIRFIELD – With two outs Tim Lee raced home on a wild pitch to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Lawrence a 4-3 triumph over Mt. Blue in a KVAC baseball matchup Friday.
Lee walked and Rich Flynn followed with a single. Ryan Ackley was intentionally walked to load the bases, to set up the winning play. Matt Perry recorded an RBI double for the Bulldogs (9-7) win.
The Cougars (11-5) were paced by Corey Boyker with two hits and Ryan Ackley who recorded seven strikeouts on the mound.
Lisbon 13, Georges Valley 3
LISBON – Scoring in every inning, Lisbon took advantage of six Georges Valley errors en route to a 13-3 five-inning triumph.
Tim Sautter led the Greyhounds (10-5) with three hits, while Steve Curtis and Aaron Farmer chipped in with two hits each.
Chris Kates struck out three to improve his record to 3-2.
Lacrosse
Mt. Blue 7, Messalonskee 6
OAKLAND – Garrett Lake tallied two goals and two assists to lead Mt. Blue to a 7-6 triumph over Messalonskee Friday, sending the Cougars to the KVAC lacrosse championship next Wednesday.
Nate Bolduc added two goals and one assist, while Buzzy Cyr, Ben Sinclair, and Luke Ferreira each chipped in with one goal apiece for the Cougars (11-1).
The Eagles (10-2) were paced by Seth Patter with two goals. Ben Koons, Mitch Beck, Nick Mosher, and Mike Morneau each netted a goal for the effort as well.
