I’m writing in regard to Rev. Taylor’s letter to the editor about the Harry Potter books that ran May 17.

As a pagan and practicing witch, I have to say that Harry Potter is not an educational source for pagans. Most of us only watch the movies when they reach HBO and there isn’t much else on television.

I disagree with Rev. Taylor’s point that Christian books and movies would be banned. “West Side Story,” “The Godfather” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” come to mind. All have an underlying Catholic theme. They aren’t popular because they have a Catholic theme, they are popular because they are filled with action and drama.

“Salem’s Lot,” “The Exorcist” and “Amityville Horror” all have strong Christian themes but are only popular because they are about the nastiest of nasties being expelled by the good guys.

Harry Potter is no different. It’s fantasy. In a world where sometimes it seems as if the good guys get cheated, these movies inspire us.

Be the good guy. You always win in the end.
