Court Street drivers should get a bit of a break this week. It will be a short break, however.

State crews wrapped up milling operations last week, grinding off the old asphalt. This week, they’ll be fixing drains and repairing sidewalks to get it ready for paving.

“We’ll have miscellaneous small crews here and there, but it won’t be anything like it was,” said project manager Bill Bourne.

Milling work is expected to move to Goff Street on Thursday.

The state project is expected to wrap up once and for all by mid-July, Bourne said. Crews should finish work on Court Street next week and begin paving Goff Street after June 14. Then, crews will turn their attention to grinding and repaving Spring Street.

“And then we’re done with that project,” Bourne said.

City crews should begin milling and grinding on Stevens Mill and Mayfield roads this week, according to Auburn pavement technician Paul Niehoff.

“We’ve been working on the drainage on Stevens Mill for about three weeks, so it’ll be nice to wrap that up,” Niehoff said. “We usually grind a road in about a day and then get it paved soon afterward.”

City crews will also concentrate on building retaining walls along Center Street as part of the sidewalk paving project there. That work will keep one lane closed during the day for several more weeks, Niehoff said.

Lewiston roads

In Lewiston, state crews will continue tearing up Main Street between Canal Street and the Longely Bridge, part of a bridge maintenance work. Crews will be replacing the top layer of asphalt on Main Street over the canal.

“The existing wearing surface has been patched numerous times, but has reached the point that it no longer provides a smooth ride or protects the structure of the bridge,” said project supervisor Herb Noyes.

The work is scheduled to continue Monday night and during the daylight hours for the next six weeks.

City of Lewiston crews will continue work along Bartlett Street as part of the Gulley Brook storm sewer separation project. They have another week’s worth of work on Bartlett Street, before moving on to Pleasant Street.

Sabattus Street drivers should expect delays from the Horton Street water line project. Water division crews are replacing the line along Horton between Ash and Sabattus streets.

Horton Street will be open only to local traffic through Friday, when the work is expected to be done. Those crews should move to Canal Street next week, to replace the water line there between Maple and Cedar streets.

Downtown traffic around the corner of Lincoln and Main streets will continue to get interference. City crews finished their work running electrical lines to a new western Gateway Park last week.

However, crews from Northern Utilities have been working on lines under Main Street for the past two weeks. They still have some work left to complete.
