NORWAY – The 2004 Norway Summer Festival, hosted by Norway Downtown Revitalization, will highlight Vivian Akers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at Norway Memorial Library.

Akers was a Norway artist who lived and painted in the early part the 20th century. He was known for his paintings, photography, life masks and woodcarvings, many of which are displayed in Norway homes. NDR seeks to have a walking tour of homes that feature Akers’ work. People with a home that has woodcarving or artwork created by Akers and who would be willing to host a few hours of walking tours, give NDR a call at 739-2215.

Many people in the area remember Akers, and festival organizers are eager to hear their stories. People who knew Akers are invited to share stories that may be used in a printed brochure about Akers’ life and work. The brochure will be distributed free at the library and Summer Festival. Other events are in the works as well.

Anyone interested in helping to organize the events is encouraged to contact Brittany Stevens at NDR, 739-2215.
