COPLIN PLANTATION – Renovation of the Nash Bridge on Route 16 is due to begin soon over Nash Stream.

The bridge will be reconstructed at a cost of nearly $1 million, according to the bid awarded by the Maine Department of Transportation to Reed & Reed of Woolwich.

Construction on the approximately 95-foot bridge is due to begin on or soon after June 1. The road will change to one-lane alternating traffic during a portion of the construction period that is scheduled to be finished by the end of November with possible repaving in the spring of 2005. The DOT also agreed to a one-time, 16-hour complete shut down of the bridge so workers can move the old bridge over to temporary abutments making room for the new bridge.
