LEEDS – The Rural Community Action Ministry will distribute seeds and seedlings in its member towns over the next week and a half.
The Gardening Program is aimed at preventing hunger by giving the elderly, people with disabilities and the financially needy an opportunity to grow and preserve their own food.
The program offers seeds, seedlings, tilling, information, site visits and consultations. The distribution schedule is:
• May 24: Canton Town Office, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hartford Town Office, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
• May 25: Greene Town Office, noon to 2 p.m.; Leeds Presbyterian Church, 3 to 4:30 p.m.
• May 26: Turner Town Office, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Livermore Town Office, 2 to 4 p.m.
• May 27: Sumner Town Office, 11 a.m. to noon; Buckfield Town Office, 1 to 3 p.m.
• May 28: Monmouth Town Office, 10 to 11:30 p.m.; Litchfield Town Office, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; Wayne Town Office, 2:30 t0 3:30 p.m.
• June 1: Sabattus Town Office, 2 to 4 p.m.; Boofy Quimby Center in Turner (elderly only) 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants are asked to bring four to six weeks’ proof of income, including wages, TANF, food stamps, disability, unemployment and workers’ compensation, if applicable. Contact Wanda Braithwaite-Baril at 524-5095 with questions.
