RUMFORD – The Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 recently attended the 75th state convention in Waterville.

Attending from the lodge were Exalted Ruler George Wyman and First Lady Linda Brackett, Dick and Sandee Welch, David and Debi Briggs, David and Barbara Fitzpatrick, Don and Joyce Richard, Richie and Tammy Philbrick, David and Sandra Perry, Steve and Melissa Letarte.

The lodge returned home with several awards for the year: first place, Americanism; certificate for participation in the Maine Children’s Cancer Program; Best Youth Program for Central District; first place, Youth Activities for Lodges 301-500 Members; All American Lodge for Lodges 301-500 Members; and first place, Public Relations Program.

Dick and Sandee Welch received a special Good Deeds Award from State President Jim Ferland for their help during the year.

Debi Briggs received the Public Relations Chairman of the Year Award. The lodge also had a Central District winner in the Americanism sixth-grade essay contest: Carl Zurhorst of Mountain Valley Middle School.

There was also a state winner in the drug awareness third-grade coloring contest: Kaitlin Langervin of Dixfield Elementary School.
