DIXFIELD – Troy Houghton hit a triple and tallied four hits to lead Dirigo to a 12-2 triumph over Carrabec in baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon Berry smacked an RBI triple and went 2-for-4 on the day, while Gary Holman, Bryan Knowles, and Spencer Berry each hit an RBI double for the Cougars (5-11).

Dan Estes and Shayne Mullin each recorded RBI doubles, while Jeremy Howell chipped in with a double for the Cobras.

Colleges

America East Baseball Awards handed out

ORONO – University of Maine’s third baseman, senior Greg Creek of Chelsea, Maine , was named to the 2004 America East All-Conference second team.

Maine catcher Aaron Izaryk was named to the first team, while Camden native Mike MacDonald, a senior pitcher, was named to the second team list.

Creek is hitting .371, which is one point shy of team-lead, with 44 runs scored and 44 RBI. The lone player to start all 51 games this season, Creek led the team in runs, hits (75), doubles (17), and is tied for the team-lead in RBIs and total bases (110). His 75 hits ranks first in America East. Creek has 27 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games.

Izaryk has seen action in 50 games, starting 40 behind the plate, and is batting .283 with 35 runs scored, 34 RBIs and has a team-high 29 walks on the season.

Three different times this season Izaryk has driven in four or more runs in a single game.

MacDonald was the 2002 America East Pitcher of the Year. He is 5-3 on the season with a 3.36 earned run average and an America East high 85.2 innings. He led the team in strikeouts with 82. MacDonald was put into the Maine record books this season as he broke the school record for strikeouts last week when he fanned his 275th career batter.

Softball

Carrabec 7, Dirigo 5

DIXFIELD – Marcey Williams fanned 12 batters to post a 7-5 Carrabec victory over Dirigo in softball action Wednesday.

Williams punched out a two-run double for the Cobras (4-12).

The Cougars’ (1-15) effort was paced by Shannon Daley with a two-run double and one run scored.
