CLEVELAND – Ichiro Suzuki had four hits, including a home run, and Jamie Moyer and the Seattle Mariners sent the Cleveland Indians to their season-high seventh straight loss, 7-3 Wednesday night.

Seattle’s Edgar Martinez hit his 236th homer as a designated hitter, passing Harold Baines as the all-time leader among DHs. Martinez has 301 lifetime home runs.

Twins 4, Devil Rays 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Jacque Jones had a go-ahead, two-run double and the Minnesota Twins snapped the Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ longest winning streak in four seasons with a 4-2 win Wednesday night.

Starter Seth Greisinger (2-3) allowed two runs and six hits over five innings, and Jones gave the Twins a 3-2 lead in the fifth.

Blue Jays 6, Angels 5

TORONTO – Vernon Wells and Gregg Zaun hit run-scoring singles in the ninth inning off Troy Percival on Wednesday night, rallying the Toronto Blue Jays past the Anaheim Angels 5-4.

Reed Johnson hit a one-out bunt single off Percival, who blew a save for the fourth time in 16 chances, and advanced to second on Frank Menechino’s single.

Braves 6, Expos 1

MONTREAL – Russ Ortiz threw a five-hitter for his first complete game of the season and eighth of his career, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 6-1 victory over the Montreal Expos on Wednesday night.

Ortiz (5-4) allowed one run in winning his second straight start. He retired his last 17 batters, and 22 of 23, to improve to 5-2 in his last eight outings.

Marlins 3, Reds 0

CINCINNATI – Tommy Phelps limited hot-hitting Cincinnati to one double over seven innings Wednesday, leading the Florida Marlins to a 3-0 victory that ended the Reds’ winning streak at seven games.

The Reds were held to one hit for the first time since Sept. 26, 2001, when Philadelphia’s Randy Wolf beat them out 8-0.

Phillies 7, Mets 4

NEW YORK – First baseman Mike Piazza’s throwing error set up Jim Thome’s tiebreaking double and the Philadelphia Phillies scored six runs in the seventh inning to beat the New York Mets 7-4 Wednesday night.

Mike Lieberthal got the Phillies going with an RBI double, sparking their rally from a 3-0 deficit. Philadelphia snapped New York’s four-game winning streak and remained in a virtual tie with Florida atop the NL East. Matt Ginter pitched six shutout innings for the Mets, extending their scoreless streak to 28, their longest since going 31 innings without allowing a run in September 1990.

White Sox 4, Rangers 0

CHICAGO – Esteban Loaiza allowed two hits and struck out nine in eight innings to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 4-0 win over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.

Loaiza (6-3) struck out Alfonso Soriano in the fourth inning for his 1,000th career strikeout and struck out the side in the fifth. He retired eight straight batters between the fifth and seventh innings.

Royals 7, Tigers 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matt Stairs and Mike Sweeney hit two-run homers, powering the Kansas City Royals over the Detroit Tigers 7-3 Wednesday night.

Sweeney, who hit his fourth homer in eight games, also had two singles and scored three runs for the Royals, who have won 15 of their last 20 against Detroit.

Astros 7, Cubs 3

HOUSTON – Jeff Bagwell, Jeff Kent and Lance Berkman each homered off Greg Maddux, and the Houston Astros overcame the early loss of Andy Pettitte to complete a two-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs with a 7-3 victory Wednesday night.

Chicago was swept for the first time this season, and it was the first time the Astros had done it against their NL Central rivals since May 2001.

Yankees 12, Orioles 9

BALTIMORE – Gary Sheffield went 4-for-5 with a homer and six RBIs, and the New York Yankees used a five-run seventh inning to hand the Baltimore Orioles their sixth straight loss, 12-9 Wednesday night.

In a wild game that featured 30 hits, five home runs and a 65-minute rain delay, the Yankees blew a 7-3 lead by allowing six runs in the sixth, then rallied against the Baltimore bullpen in the seventh. Hideki Matsui started the uprising with a home run off Buddy Groom, and after Enrique Wilson tied it with an RBI single off B.J. Ryan (1-2), pinch-hitter Bernie Williams singled in a run and Derek Jeter doubled. Sheffield then hit a two-run single to make it 12-9.
