MEXICO – SAD 43 is hosting an informational meeting on preventing youth suicide at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 27, in the Mountain Valley Middle School auditorium.

Mountain Valley High School Principal Bruce Lindberg said the special program, triggered by a recent suicide of a high school student, is geared toward the parents of middle and high school students.

He said a community group of school personnel, area clergy, mental health counselors, police officers and others met following the school’s most recent tragedy to review the actions that were taken. The group decided an informational meeting outlining warning signs and signals, and area resources that could help would benefit the community.

Susan O’Halloran, of Medical Care Development and the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program, will make a presentation. She is responsible for designing and delivering suicide prevention programs around the state.

Dr. Dieter Kreckel of Swift River Health Care and Rumford Hospital will speak on specific issues facing the River Valley community.
