The Julia Adams Morse Library has been denied grant money due to the lack of a handicapped accessible bathroom, which is needed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act. Due to statewide complaints the requirement may be waived for future grant considerations.

Durham: Town truck for sale

Selectmen, on the recommendation of Fire Chief Bill St. Michel, voted to sell the Fire Department’s forestry unit. It will be replaced with a new, recently ordered fire and rescue truck. The forestry unit needs a new head gasket, but is believed to be in otherwise good condition. The deadline to make an offer is June 29, and selectmen reserve the right to refuse any and all offers.

Durham: Pfaffinger joins school board

The School Committee has appointed Linda Pfaffinger to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Donna Lacy.

A Durham resident for five years, Pfaffinger is on the adjunct faculty at the University of Southern Maine where she teaches in the Criminology Department. She also works for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath-Brunswick.

Pfaffinger has served as an officer for the Brunswick Athletic Boosters Club for five years, and has chaired the State Committee on HIV Prevention for the Maine Bureau of Health, according to school Superintendent Shannon Welsh.

Lisbon: Danuski runs again

Deborah Danuski, who ran unsuccessfully for the School Committee in the May 15 municipal election, will run unopposed for a two-year seat on the School Committee. The seat will be filled in a special election June 8, the same date as the state primary election. Danuski would replace Layne Curtis, who resigned to run for selectmen in the recent municipal election.

Lisbon: Two teachers resign

The School Committee has accepted the resignations of two School Department faculty members effective at the end of the current school year: Lisa-Marie Sposta, eighth-grade language arts teacher at Philip W. Sugg Middle School; and high school music teacher Andrea Lynch.
