PARIS – Plans are under way for the annual Memorial Day celebration on Sunday, May 30, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

The program will begin at 2 p.m. with a welcome address by Administrator Pat Young. The flag-raising and honor guard will be performed by the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Oxford.

The pledge of allegiance will be led by Joe Cooney, chairman of the Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee. Guest speaker will be U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud.

“The events of the past several years bring into focus how important our military forces are to us. We need to remember all our service people who have lost their lives in defending our freedom. We also need to honor the heroes we have living among us, either in active duty or as veterans of previous times of conflict,” said Young.

The ceremony is a joint effort by the Maine Veterans’ Home and the Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee.

Refreshments will be served and staff members will be on hand for tours of the facility. For more information, call 743-6300 or visit the Web at www.maineveteranshomes.org.
