NORWAY – Some of the most accomplished fiber artists in the state will exhibit their work in June at the Matolcsy Art Center on Main Street.
“Imagine This!” will begin with an opening wine and cheese reception from 6 to 8 p.m. June 4. The show features the work of Catherine Worthington of Brunswick, who does hand-painted fabrics and textile designs; Richard Lee of Brunswick, a printmaker; and Joli Green of Freeport, who does basketry and jewelry.
Sharing the exhibition space will be the work of the Western Maine Art Group co-op members, including some who are new to the gallery.
Opening receptions will be held the first Friday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m.
On July 2, the gallery will open with a Lajos Matolcsy retrospective and co-op show called “Splash.” From 2 to 4 p.m. July 21, the gallery will host a flower arrangement workshop with Michael Desplaines of the McLaughlin Foundation.
On Aug. 6, there will be an opening reception for Arthur Murphy and his carved birds, and a co-op show called “Hot Days and Cool Nights.”
The show in September, opening Sept. 3, will introduce sculptor Gil Whitman with a co-op member show called “Cool Days and Hot Nights.”
A handmade books workshop by Sarah Shepley is also planned, as are workshops and artist talks throughout the summer.
