LEWISTON – Holy Cross School held its fifth annual art exhibit on April 29. The exhibit, “Celebrate Illustration,” displayed projects inspired by the illustrations in children’s books.

Authors featured included Robert McCloskey, Eric Carle, Dahlov Ipcar, Barbara Cooney, Jan Brett, Dr. Seuss and Bill Peet.

That evening, the hallways of the school were transformed into an art museum, as classical music played softly. Every student in grades pre-kindergarten through six created two pieces of art for the event.

As a follow-up activity, the students in grades four through six were given to a field trip to the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. While there, they visited the Maine illustrator exhibit. The children saw original paintings that became pages in some of their favorite books.

The art exhibit and the field trips were part of Holy Cross School’s commitment to incorporate literature across the curriculum.
