FARMINGTON – Luke Ferreira scored six goals and Garrett Lake added two and earned two assists as No. 3 Mt. Blue upended No. 6 Lewiston 12-7 in the teams’ Eastern quarterfinal lacrosse matchup Tuesday.

Ben Sinclair added two goals and Buzzy Cyr and Andrew Beaulieu added a goal each for the Cougars (12-1), who will play in the semifinals Thursday.

Jon Fournier led the scoring attack for Lewiston with three goals, while his brother Ben Fournier and Bryan Shaw each added two. Bobby Labbe added two assists for the Blue Devils (10-4).

Freeman Scott and Derek Taber combined for 19 saves in net for Mt. Blue, while Billy Brooks and Steve Cobb combined for nine in the Lewiston net.

Baseball

Madison 7, Mt. Abram 1

SALEM – Randy McMullen went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead ninth-ranked Madison to a 7-1 victory over eighth-ranked Mt. Abram in a preliminary round of the Western Class C baseball playoffs Tuesday.

Tony Fortin chipped in for the Bulldogs with a pair of hits and one RBI, while Dan Kalagher belted out a double. Fortin also handled the pitching duties, scattering four hits while notching the win.

Sam Witherspoon led the offensive effort for the Roadrunners (9-7) with an RBI double, while Sterling Pingree, James Beede and Andy Sperry all tallied singles. Brandon Wheeler threw the first five innings and was credited with the loss.

Falmouth 1, Poland 0

FALMOUTH – Hopson Bradford belted out a double in the fourth inning to plate Luke Rand and lift seventh-ranked Falmouth to a 1-0 victory over 10th-ranked Poland in a Western Class B preliminary round Tuesday.

Bradford led the Yachtsmen with a pair of hits on the day. Aaron Paradis fanned six and walked one while earning the mound win.

Jerry Goss twirled the first four innings for the Knights, allowing three hits and the run which wound up closing out the Knights’ season.
