MEXICO – Only two incumbents are running for the SAD 43 board, which has four openings from Mexico.

Longtime school board director Betty Barrett, 78, of Brook Street is running for a fourth, three-year term. Peter Zanoni, 68, of Gleason Street is seeking a second, three-year term.

The town’s other two representatives, Jarrod Dumas and Amy Bernard, resigned after serving one year of their terms. No one took out nomination papers to run for the remaining two years of both terms.

Write-in candidates at the June 8 election could become school board members, if they agree, or selectmen could appoint representatives.

Prior to becoming a school board member, Barrett worked for the so-called old SAD 43 school system for 24 years as an administrative assistant. She retired in 1987. SAD 43 and the Rumford School Department merged two years later. Barrett became a member of the new SAD 43 board in 1994.

Zanoni, is a retired life-science teacher who works as the community involvement representative for Farmington’s Wal-Mart. He filled out one year of a term vacated by Tammi MacDonald, then won his first, full, three-year term in 2001.
