Planning has already begun for the combined Livermore Falls and Jay annual Independence Day Parade on July 3.

Chairman Earl Howard said the 195th Army Marching Band will lead the parade, something he has been anticipating for three years.

Line up will be at RaNor’s and at Jay High School with the parade pulling out at 5 p.m.

The remaining line-up will be similar to last year and include military units, floats, scouts, police, antique cars and fire trucks.

It will also include a bicycle decorating contest for youngsters ages 10-12. Howard said cyclists and those on roller blades are required to wear helmets.

He also said throwing candy from vehicles is forbidden for safety reasons. People who want to handout candy or other items should do it while walking at the side of the parade.

He also asked that people with horses in the parade be responsible and pick up after them.

Besides the parade, the day’s events include a chicken barbecue at the Frank L. Mitchell Post, VFW, beginning at 5 p.m. Take out will be from 4-5 p.m., Howard says.

Sponsors who are supporting the committee’s work will be listed on the sides of vehicles in the parade. Among them are the Otis Mill, Franklin Savings, Otis Federal Credit Union, and Dr. Jennifer Pribyl.

Final arrangements will be made when the committee meets again at 6:30 p.m. on June 8 and June 24 at the VFW post home.

Working with Howard are Kathy Dumond as co-chair, Lynn Dunton as treasurer, Bernard Gray as secretary, Sheriff Dennis Pike, Chief Larry White, Sgt. Charles Keene and Andre Ouellette in charge of line-up.
