AUBURN – Coldwell Banker Millett Realty has established the Gary Thompson Memorial Soccer Scholarship Fund in memory of broker Gary Thompson, who died in December.

Thompson was an active soccer coach in the Lewiston-Auburn area and was a prominent member of the community. Thompson was also a realtor at Millett Realty for eight years.

“The realtors wanted to develop an annual fund in Gary’s memory,” said Sharon Millett, “We wanted to honor his memory and commitment to the youth of the Lewiston-Auburn area.”

The fund will be awarded to at least one student from each of the following schools: Edward Little High School, St. Dominic Regional High School and Lewiston High School.

Eligible students will be seniors on the varsity soccer team at their high school. They must be accepted by an institution of higher education, including two-year technical, community college and four-year institutions. Applications will be made available to the school guidance office next fall.

At least one student from each school will be selected by the Gary Thompson Memorial Soccer Scholarship Fund Committee to receive an award of $500 that must be used toward the expense of attending a school of higher education, including books and tuition fees.

The winning students will be awarded the scholarship at their respective school’s fall sports award ceremony.

Fund-raising for the scholarships kicked off on May 22 at a garage sale at Coldwell Banker Millett Realty parking lot, 155 Center St. An ongoing bottle return fund is in place at Rooper’s locations in Lewiston and Auburn and Florian’s Market in Auburn.

One hundred percent of all money raised will go to the fund. For more information or to donate, contact Millett Realty at 782-8311.
