FARMINGTON – The votes are in and two Farmington Rotary Club Community Service Awards will be presented Wednesday, June 9. The public is invited to attend. Reservations are being taken until June 4.

The event will take place at the Granary Restaurant beginning with a social at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards presentation.

A committee composed of last year’s recipients and several Rotarians met recently to review the public nominations and determine the 2004 winners.

“We had many nominations this year from throughout Franklin County and the selection was very difficult,” said Carol Timberlake. “There are so many people out there in this western Maine area who have truly enhanced our economy and quality of life.”

The Farmington Rotary Club wants to make sure those local heroes are recognized. Since 1999, the club has recognized an entrepreneur and a senior vocational recipient.

Community members from several towns in Franklin County were asked to nominate potential candidates who met the criteria for these awards. The votes have been tallied and the winners have been determined but the names are kept secret until the actual presentation.

Last year’s winners were Steve and Rhonda Jones of Steve’s Market and Clyde Ross, retired from SAD 9 and deputy chief of the Farmington Fire Department.

A local youth will provide entertainment for the evening. Last year the Rising Star Award was given to Scott Walmer, who entertained with several rousing bagpipe selections.

Make a reservation by sending a check for $24 per person for this evening of dinner and awards by June 4 to Jill Berry Bowen, Farmington Rotarian, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington, ME 04938. For more information, call Bill Marceau at 778-0607 or Carol Timberlake at 557-8572.
