SABATTUS – Selectmen are hoping that three transportation requests will climb the state’s “to-do” list faster than the recent increase of town accidents.

To solve current and future traffic problems, town officials proposed erecting traffic lights at the intersections of routes 126 and 132, and Pleasant Hill Road and Middle Road to the Department of Transportation and Turnpike Authorities.

“This is something we need right away to go with the turnpike exit,” Selectman Gino Camardese said. “Maine DOT and Turnpike Authority said they are going to try and separate our requests from the long-term projects.”

Originally selectmen put in a request for sidewalks on Greene Street for walking students – that request has been pulled.

“Right now with all the accidents happening we need street lights,” Selectman Chair Rudy Gayton said. “Besides come September, the school board said there will be no more walking students – all students will have public transportation.”

There will be a policy meeting on June 23 in which these requests will be addressed.

In other news the town of Sabattus is being sued over two photocopiers it says it doesn’t possess. Town Administrator Tracy Frabrizo said Canon Financial Services Inc. is taking legal action over one copier the town leased and returned to its company. According to Frabrizo only one copier was originally leased from Canon Financial Services but due to malfunctions returned. Since then the town has been currently using another vender out of Brunswick.

Frabrizo said the company has no record of the return and claims it replaced the copier with a working one and now the town has two copiers operating in the town’s office. Selectmen are requesting receipts before legal action is sought.

A mandatory town-employee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22, to discuss new employment policies and benefits. The selectmen also announced that the town office will close at 6 p.m. on selectmen meeting nights, which are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

The Sabattus town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the town hall located on Middle Street.
