LEWISTON – Margaret Craven, D-Lewiston, announced her candidacy for a second term to the Maine House of Representatives.
She serves on the Health and Human Services Committee.
Rep. Craven supported the passage of the Essential Programs and Services method of calculating school aid. This measure caps the local share of education spending.
She also worked on restructuring of MaineCare, the state’s Medicaid program. She was instrumental in the merger of the Departments of Human Services and Behavioral and Developmental Services, which aims to provide more efficient delivery of services as well as savings.
Craven participated in passing a number of laws to lessen the burden on small businesses, bolster economic development initiatives and assist employers in providing affordable health care through the passage of Dirigo Health.
Craven is married to Jim Craven and lives at 41 Russell St., Lewiston. They have two grown sons, Walt and TJ. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in social and behavioral sciences and a master’s degree in adult education.
When not serving in the Legislature, she earns her living as a group home administrator at John F. Murphy Homes Inc. Auburn. She is a volunteer at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, and serves on the Commission on Substance Abuse, Commission to Study Public Health and the Governor’s Task Force on Early Childhood.
