OTISFIELD – The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, located on the Rayville Road, has the following activities scheduled for June:

Sunday, June 6, a membership meeting after the morning service. Following that there will be a trustee’s meeting.

Sunday, June 13, the pastor will be on vacation. There will be a guest speaker.

Sunday, June 20, there will be an officer’s meeting after the morning service.

Sunday, June 27, members of the International Red Hat Society will be guests. There will be a coffee hour after the morning service.

Gem show

BETHEL – The 43rd annual Western Maine Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Festival, sponsored by the Oxford County Mineral and Gem Association, will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11, at Crescent Park School.

The show will feature a variety of dealers from Maine and across the United States providing specimens, jewelry and rough gems. There will be guided field trips to local mines at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Society elects

NORWAY – The Norway Historical Society met May 19 when officers and trustees were elected as follows: president, Fr. Don McAllister; vice president, Guy Campbell; secretary, Claire Sessions; treasurer, Steve Sessions; curator, Charles Longley; trustees, Dick Denison, Jean Cummings, Pat Tibbetts, John Titus, Ruth Gurney and Bob Sessions.

Pat Chandler spoke about her paintings and about her interest in historical structures in April. Al Soule spoke on the development of the Small Woodlot Owners Association in May.

A recent acquisition is the music album collection of Joseph Quinn. Tapes of his radio programs are also included.

The society is open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and by appointment anytime. For the researcher into family roots, the society has extensive files and newspaper archives. For more information, call Longley at 743-2128 or Campbell at 743-2305.
