MOUNT VERNON – Clyde E. Dyar recently announced his independent candidacy for state senator in District 18 in the November election.

The district includes portions of Franklin, Kennebec and Somerset counties, extending northerly from Wayne to Coburn Gore and easterly from Rangeley to Smithfield.

According to a prepared statement, Dyar was born and raised in Farmington. He has worked as economic development director both for Franklin County and for Kennebec Regional Planning Commission. Currently he’s president of the Somerset Economic Development Corp.

Dyar is a graduate of Farmington High School and the University of Maine at Farmington. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years between high school and college. While attending college, he joined the Maine Air National Guard’s 101st Air Defense Wing at Bangor, where he served 17 years.

He worked at Starbird Sawmill in Strong, K & H Foster Construction in Wilton, G.H. Bass. Inc. in Wilton and Forster Manufacturing in Wilton. He was also the co-owner of Corner Variety Store in Farmington.

Starting in 1976, he worked in public service and community development. Subsequently he formed Meadow Brook Consulting, specializing in community and economic development.

“I am concerned about the implications and impact of rising local property taxes and state-imposed fees on the residents of the district,” he states, “and I am committed to carefully reviewing state expenditures” for reductions.

Dyar views the recently adopted Pine Tree Zone legislation as a positive step for creating jobs and attracting additional investment capital.
