The great philosopher Plato stated that good education leads to good government. This is why public education has long been the foundation of America, the essential ingredient of her progress and well-being.
Yet over the years, I have noticed there has been a powerful and well-organized campaign in this state and across the nation to undermine public education.
Our current state senator, Peggy Rotundo, has been a leader in Lewiston and in Augusta to keep public education up to the highest standard. Her opponent in the upcoming Democratic primary, on the other hand, has not revealed his views on public schools, which are essential to the future of Lewiston citizens.
For this reason, I urge Lewiston voters to return Peggy Rotundo to the Maine Senate.
