WATERFORD – Police canceled a missing person report on a 16-year-old high school student after she contacted police Thursday.

Candace M. Ward is “safe with a relative in Bethel,” said Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Capt. James P. Miclon.

Miclon said Ward called after seeing a story in Wednesday’s Sun Journal which stated that her mother, Bethany Lyon of 331 Bear Pond Road, had asked police to help locate her daughter, who took off with her prom date three weeks ago and hadn’t been home since.

Miclon said the family is working to resolve its issues so Ward can return home.
