HYDE PARK, Vt. (AP) – Police have formally identified the body of a woman found Wednesday as that of Jodie Whitney, who had been missing since last week.

Whitney’s body was to undergo an autopsy on Thursday. Results of the autopsy had not been released by Thursday evening.

A statement from the Lamoille County Sheriff’s office released Thursday afternoon said that detectives were providing information about the case to Lamoille County State’s Attorney Joel Page.

Edgar Whitney was due to be arraigned Friday on charges that he killed his wife.

Police say Edgar Whitney confessed Wednesday to killing Jodie Whitney, 35, of Johnson.

Edgar Whitney was hospitalized Wednesday after attempting suicide by taking an overdose of pills. He remained hospitalized at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Thursday.

Page said Thursday that he would be arraigned Friday if he was out of the hospital.

Lamoille County Sheriff Roger Marcoux, who announced the discovery of the body Wednesday afternoon, said on Thursday that he still planned to meet with Vermont and New Hampshire police who are investigating the disappearances of two other women from the region.

In February Maura Murray, a University of Massachusetts student, disappeared after a single vehicle traffic accident in Haverhill, N.H., about 75 miles from Johnson. In March, Brianna Maitland of Sheldon disappeared after leaving her job in Montgomery, about 25 miles from Johnson.

Jodie Whitney’s employer, the Stoweflake Resort in Stowe, is setting up a memorial fund to benefit her two daughters, ages 3 and 15.
