PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) – A woman power-walking near a Plymouth park was beaten by a man chasing her with what she thinks was a crowbar, and she managed to get to a house for help with blood streaming down her face, police said.

Police said the attack occurred about 8:30 a.m. Monday near Nelson Park, as band students warmed up nearby for the town’s Memorial Day parade. The woman said her attacker came out from behind a parked car she had passed and ran toward her. When he caught up with her, he struck her on the head.

“He dragged the (tool’s) claw against my skull,” the 38-year-old Plymouth resident said. “I didn’t look back, but started to run away. He caught up with me and hit me again. He wanted to kill me.”

The woman was treated at Jordan Hospital, where she required stitches, and released.

Police said her assailant has not been identified, and still is at large. They have beefed up patrols in the area.

“We’re concerned about it and are working the case hard,” said Plymouth police Capt. Michael Botieri.

Police said they are looking for a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5-foot-10, clean-shaven and with a blonde crew cut.
