OXFORD – A Mechanic Falls woman was hurt Thursday night when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer as she left the Wal-Mart parking lot to enter Route 26.
Crystal Conant, 22, was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway for treatment of minor injuries, Oxford police Lt. Jon Tibbetts said.
Conant was leaving the Wal-Mart parking lot about 10 p.m., he said, and a tractor-trailer driven by Terrence Wheaton, 60, of Bridgton was headed south on Route 26 when they collided at the traffic light on Route 26, the officer said.
Wheaton said he had driven the truck nearly a million miles without an accident.
Oxford Rescue transported Conant to the hospital.
Conant’s 1993 Geo, valued at about $2,000, was totalled. The 1994 Peterbilt rig hauling paper products had $400 damage to the bumper. The rig is registered to T & J Wheaton Inc.
Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers were at the scene to inspect the truck, which is standard procedure, Tibbetts said.
