NEW GLOUCESTER – Voters head to the polls Tuesday to elect two selectmen. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, at AMVET Post 6 Hall on Route 100.
Steven Libby, the incumbent, is running for selectmen for a third consecutive term. Currently he serves as chairman for the five-member board. During the past 18 years Libby has served in a wide range of capacities: Planning Board, Budget Committee, Capital Reserve Committee, New Gloucester Fire Association Trustee and a number of ad hoc groups.

Concerns for New Gloucester: Long-range planning for identifying and managing the future needs of New Gloucester. That includes looking closely at municipal operations and budget modeling procedures to control spending through five-year planning models

Community service: Fairgrounds Committee and Recreation Commission member
Local concerns: Managing New Gloucester’s growth so it doesn’t get out of control. The town needs to take advantage of volunteer help as much as possible. There is a need to find creative ways to encourage people to participate in short term projects because of personal time limitations. The town needs to give the volunteer fire and rescue people as much support as possible.
