TAMPA, Fla. – Maurice A. Lavoie, 62, of Tampa, Fla. and born in Auburn, died on Thursday, June 3, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years, and recently retired from the United States Postal Service.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Anne Lavoie; one son, Steven M. Lavoie and his wife Trudy of Brandon; two daughters, Donna M. Hickey and her husband Patrick of Lynn, Mass., and Shawna L. Nelson and her husband Eric of Tallahassee, Fla.; three stepsons, Richard and his wife Laureen of Miami, Fla., Ronald and his girlfriend Kristine of Tampa, Fla., and Christopher and his wife Brenda of Raleigh, N.C.; and his mother, Rejane Lavoie of Auburn.

One of 11 children, he is also survived by six brothers, Raymond and his wife Becky, Richard and his wife Priscilla, Paul and his wife Sue, Charlie and his wife Debbie, Claude, and Leonard Jr.; four sisters, Linda and her husband Paul, Elaine, Cathy, Ann and her husband Jerry; and six grandchildren, Shane, Chris, Nikki, Kenley, Carter, and Megan.

He was predeceased by his father, Leonard Lavoie Sr.
