The recent statement by Public Safety Commissioner Michael Cantara makes me wonder if our leaders in Augusta really care about the safety of the public.

Deep in the story of May 27, he is quoted as saying “sharpened vigilance should not be seen as justification for racial profiling.” No?

Here’s a thought. It wasn’t grandmothers from Scandinavia that killed 3,000 Americans on Sept. 11. It was men of Arab descent between the ages of 18 and 45. It’s the same group that killed 251 U.S. Marines in Lebanon in 1982, threw an elderly, crippled, American man off a cruise ship into the ocean just for being Jewish, bombed the USS Cole, bombed two U.S. embassies in Africa, and beheaded an American civilian recently.

In case no one realizes it, we are at war with Islama-fascists and it will be a struggle to the death. They are not interested in reaching a dialogue with us or trying to find a road map to peace. They just want us dead. To them, we are Godless, evil, non-believers and must be destroyed.

After watching some network television, sometimes I think they may have a valid argument. But we really shouldn’t be too concerned about offending the sensibilities of people who want to kill us. If the people in charge of safety can’t seem to see the forest for the trees, I’ll put my faith in the informed citizen.
