UNITY – The first recipients of the Bert and Coral Clifford Scholarship Fund have been named. Kendra March of Newcastle and Mary Jewett of Bridgton have each received $1,500 scholarships. The scholarships are given to outstanding students from Maine with high financial need.
Unity College and the Unity Foundation worked together to develop the scholarship to acknowledge well-known philanthropists Bert and Coral Clifford, who have had a long relationship with the college.
Jewett, a graduate of Lake Region High School, has been active as a volunteer in the Lakes Region Environmental Association, was Rotary student of the month, a member of the National Honor Society, active in many outdoor activities, bird watching, rock climbing and hiking. She is enrolled in the ecology program and will pursue teacher certification as well.
