PARIS – The SAD 17 board of directors, the Norway-Paris Kiwanis Club and the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Student Council honored Karen Ellis as April Staff Member of the Month at a board meeting.
Ellis teaches grade two at the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School in Norway. She has been teaching in the Oxford Hills School District for 27 years. Joan Wenzel, who nominated Ellis, describes her as a colleague “whose giving nature is rare and unique.”
In addition to her teaching duties, Ellis enthusiastically organizes community book swaps, Rowe’s Read Across America program, prepares a tutoring program in the summer and raises funds and reading awareness through the Right Start program.
Ellis received $100 from the Student Council and her name has been added to the plaque sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The Oxford Hills Community Education Exchange coordinates the Staff Member of the Month program.
