FARMINGTON – An excited and slightly dubious Chelsey Marie Russell will take her first airplane ride when she flies to Atlanta in August.

Russell, 5, of Farmington will be heading south to participate in the Sunburst International Beauty Pageant. She was a contestant in the Sunburst Beauty Pageant that took place last month in Portland. There, she placed second runner-up in each of seven categories and fourth overall. The categories include two photo portfolios, swimwear, formal wear, school attire, interview and talent.

In a mint-green dress adorned with flowers and a tutu skirt, Russell performed a ballet to the strains of “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” for the talent portion of the competition.

For the interview she answered questions about herself, voice amplified for the audience in attendance. It was then that she declared her fondness for particular toys – Winnie the Pooh and Barbie.

Her ability to say hello in various languages – Spanish and Japanese, to name two, will serve her well when she meets fellow international participants expected to attend the event in Atlanta.
