FARMINGTON – Moonlight Madness, sponsored by the Downtown Business and Professionals Association, is set for Friday, July 30.

One of the activities will be Art in the Park, an art show held in Meetinghouse Park off Main Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and abstracts will be displayed in many media, watercolor, acrylic, collage, pastel and oil. It’s expected to attract about 40 professional artists from throughout Maine. Artists are being urged to register soon.

Artists who plan to participate include: Dennis LeBlanc and Irene Duplissis of Auburn; John Lovejoy, Mardy Bogar, Selina Shields and Susan Pomeroy of Farmington; Nancy Trider of Leeds; John Bickford of Oquossoc; Joyce Dubay of New Vineyard; Paul and Susan Boucher of Lewiston; Marni Lawson of Temple; Joe McLaughlin of Wilton; and Kay Seefeldt and Mary Beth Morrison of New Sharon.

In addition to ribbons and cash prizes for first, second and third places, best of show and a Judges’ Award, purchase prizes are given by merchants and businesses, which commit ahead of time to buy a painting from a participating artist.

Children’s art

Children, ages 3 to 17, may enter up to three pieces for display and judging in the gazebo. Each piece must be framed with hanging hardware. Judging will be by age group; first, second and third place cash prizes will be awarded in each group. Organizers say they hope parents and guardians will encourage children to prepare some artwork for Art in the Park since it’s enjoyed by the public and also encourages kids to take their art seriously.

For application information or to make a purchase prize or other donation, people may contact Mary Beth Morrison at 778-6631, or e-mail [email protected].
