A Dryden boy and a Livermore Falls man were charged early Monday after allegedly breaking into vehicles in Jay and Livermore Falls.

The 17-year-old Dryden boy also faces additional charges for allegedly assaulting a Jay police officer and damaging a police cruiser.

Jay police responded to a call at 2:44 a.m. about two suspects breaking into vehicles at the Wausau-Mosinee Paper Corp. parking lot.

Jay officer Richard Caton IV responded and Livermore Falls police officer Rod Small responded to assist, Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.

Both officers were checking the area when two males fitting the description were found walking from Gordon Street in the Central Street area in Livermore Falls with their pockets “loaded with change and several other items,” Steward said.

A resident of Gordon Street told police she had heard doors shutting and police investigated and her vehicle had been entered and the door was left open, he said.

Small arrested Richard Coates, 19, of Livermore Falls and charged him with burglary of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property, Steward said.

Coates was held on $500 cash bail and transported to Androscoggin County Jail by Livermore Falls officer Rod Small.

Caton took care of the 17-year-old Dryden boy and called the boy’s parents, Jay police Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier.

The teen became unruly and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington to be evaluated and placed in protective custody, Fournier said.

The juvenile was charged with criminal mischief for damages to the cruiser and arrested on aggravated assault on a police officer, Fournier said.

Additionally, he was also charged with resisting arrest and burglary of a motor vehicle, Fournier said.

He was expected to be transported to a Charleston youth detention center Monday, Fournier said.
