Dear Sun Spots: Regarding your inquiry from R.R. Cook, Farmington, in the June 2 column:
The Lewiston Veterans Center would be most happy to accept the WWII memorabilia. We have a display case in which we display a variety of military memorabilia.
You can reach me at (207) 783-0068. – Roy Driver, Team Leader, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: I have a box of finished tissue box covers to give away. Please bring a box.
I still have some puzzles too. And I also have a picture of a bird taken by my son. Is there a photo contest or any way I could enter it for him? I have some children’s VCR tapes that have been used very little. Please call after 5 p.m. or before 10 a.m. I can be reached at (207) 782-6953. – Muriel Sawyer, Lewiston.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, you may want to check out the following photo competitions:
The fourth annual Downtown Bangor Photo Contest & Exhibition will be held this year. Guidelines will be posted shortly at http://downtownbangor.com/index.php?area=photocontest.
There also is a 2004 National Wildlife Photography Competition. This is open to all amateur and aspiring professional photographers 18 years of age or older except employees of the National Wildlife Federation and their immediate families. For more details, check out their Web site at http://www.nwf.org/nationalwildlife/photocontestrules.cfm.
The Wildlife Federation is looking for striking images of nature, creatures on land and life beneath the water’s surface. These images may show animal behavior, portraits of wildlife in natural habitat, plant life, natural landscapes or people interacting with nature. Please do not include photographs of pets or domestic animals. Previously published material may be entered; however, please include information on when and where the photo appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond what is possible in a darkroom must be labeled as such and will be judged separately on their own merits. Images will be judged by the editors on originality, technical excellence, composition, action, drama and overall impact.
Online submissions can be uploaded. Mail entries must be postmarked no later than July 15 (subject to change). Receipt of packages will not be acknowledged. Only the winners and finalists will be notified by the end of October. All properly prepared non-finalist or non-winning entries will be returned by that time. Winning photos will appear in the federations’ December-January 2005 issue, and different finalists will appear weekly on the magazine’s Web site and eNature.com. A grand prize of $1,000 will be given, in addition to other cash prizes awarded to winning photos.
Send slide and print entries to National Wildlife Photography Competition, Drawer C-04, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190-6000. Or upload digital images at http://www.nwf.org/nationalwildlife/contestEntryForm.cfm.
