LEWISTON – Dick Fosbury and Francie Larrieu-Smith, two of the biggest names in American track & field history, will be coaching at the Bates College track & field camp June 20-25.
Fosbury was the 1968 Olympic high jump champion in Mexico City. Fosbury revolutionized high jumping with a radical change in technique that became known as the Fosbury Flop. Larrieu was a five-time Olympian who broke 34 American track records during her legendary career.
In addition to camp clinics, the two Olympians will speak at a lecture open to the public on Tuesday evening, June 22 at 8 p.m. at Bates
The track camp is open to students ages 13 to 18 and works on fundamental and advanced techniques in all events. The camp is directed by Bates track coaches Carolyn Court and Al Fereshetian, and Bowdoin track coach Peter Slovenski.
