BETHEL – David Murphy, superintendent of SAD 44, was jubilant Wednesday, the day after referendum voters overwhelmingly approved the district’s $9.34 million budget.
“We’re real pleased that it passed because we put a lot of time and work into it,” he said early Wednesday evening. “We’re thankful that the voters approved it, and we’re looking forward to moving ahead in a positive manner.”
According to votes from four of the district’s five towns – Andover, Bethel, Newry and Woodstock – Question 4, which authorized SAD 44’s Board of Directors to spend $9,339,839 for the 2004-05 school year, passed 681-325.
Results from Greenwood have not yet been received.
The budget is $432,749 more than in fiscal year 2003-04, which ends June 30.
Referendum Question 5 asked the district to appropriate $223,371 for adult education for the upcoming school year and raise $102,743 as the local share. It passed in the four towns 642-371.
Question 6, which allows the board to apply for and expend grants, gifts, advances and aid received from federal, state, private, public, or individual sources, passed 771-241.
