RANGELEY – Voters will decide Tuesday whether to lease town land off Loon Lake Road to the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club to build a snow groomer barn and clubhouse.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 15 at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School.

The Rangeley Lakes Cross Country Ski Club is asking that the town forgive $13,251.77 of its $22,251.77 debt, and selectmen recommend that the article not pass.

Another article asks the town to authorize borrowing up to $159,469 for capital improvements to the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. The projects include backboard safety restraints, industrial arts space renovations, a roof evaluation, window repairs, computer infrastructure, heating system safeguards, locker replacement, hallway flooring replacement and repairs to gym bleachers. The Rangeley School Committee recommends passage.

The Budget Committee recommends spending $5,276,163, which includes $515,685 for general government, $561,884 for public safety, $1,103,969 for public works, $9,490 for health and welfare, $284,602 for health and recreation, $197,838 for debt service and $5,000 for 150th year celebration. Also, $19,000 for Chamber of Commerce advertising of the region and $2,218,383.62 for education.

The Public Safety Department requested $5,314 more than is being recommended; public works asked for $29,050 more, and the 150th year celebration $10,000 more. In addition, the Budget Committee recommended against the appropriation of $20,000 for the teacher summer wages reserve account and a petition from the Chamber of Commerce for $24,700.

Also at the town meeting, residents will elect members to the Budget Committee and the H.A. Furbish Trust.
