PORTLAND – Boston Red Sox legend Luis Tiant will be appearing at Hadlock Field on Friday, June 11 when the Portland Sea Dogs take on the New Britain Rock Cats at 7 p.m.

Tiant will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Tiant’s appearance is part of the Hannaford Supermarket’s Red Sox Great Series at Hadlock Field.

Tiant spent eight season with the Boston Red Sox from 1971-1978, compiling a 122-81 record with a 3.36 ERA and three 20-win seasons. He was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1997.

Tiant played 19 years (1964-1982) in the major leagues, posting a career record of 229-172 with a 3.30 ERA and 2,416 striekouts.

He also pitched for Cleveland, Minnesota, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh, and California.

Tiant pitched in three All-Star games, won 20 or more games four times, struck out 200 or more batters three times and led the American League in ERA in 1968 and 1972.
