FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 honored this year’s choice of Sister of the Year at a potluck supper preceding the monthly meeting. Past Sisters of the Year chose Jean Corcoran to receive the honor for 2004.

Corcoran was presented a special charm bracelet. Several of the past sisters wrote a poem, which was read. The theme of the potluck supper was foods that are eaten at picnics. A special cake was served for dessert.

The meeting was called to order by President Rebecca Powell. Two new members joined – Janice Breadeau and Diana White – which brings total membership to 145.

The club voted to raise the Randy Lane Scholarship from $100 to $200 a year. An Emblem member’s ill child in need of a transplant will receive a donation to help with traveling expenses.

The senior class of Mount Blue High School will receive a donation of $100 toward a graduation barbecue. Money will be used to help build a ramp for an elderly woman whose daughter is a member of the club. The ramp will be large enough to accommodate the use of a walker.

Americanism Co-Chairwomen Lois Barker and Avis Mahoney addressed members. Mahoney reported on the number of flags that were placed at the graves of deceased members. Barker gave a reading taken from the Emblem Topics magazine.

She reminded members who have volunteered to perform two more flag-folding ceremonies. One ceremony will take place at the Sandy River Health Center on Sunday, June 20, after the Elks Flag Day Ceremony. The second will be done during beano at the Elks Lodge on Monday, June 14.

Bethany Storer, chairwoman for the Father’s Day breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., got volunteers to donate time and food items for the breakfast at the West Farmington Elks lodge.

Sandy Knight was elected to fill the office of the second trustee for the remainder of the year. Connie Small was installing officer. The mystery gift was won by Becky Hinkley and the 50-50 raffle by Christine Greenleaf.
