NEW GLOUCESTER – Voters in Gray and New Gloucester on Tuesday passed the SAD 15 budget but rejected having an all-day kindergarten by 41 votes.

And board Chairman Dan Maguire of Gray lost his bid for re-election.

The eight budget articles passed by at least a 2-to-1 ratio. The budget for 2004-05 stands at $17,084,408.

In New Gloucester the kindergarten initiative passed 403-371, while in Gray it lost, 638-565. The total was 1009 opposed and 968 in favor.

Voters appropriated $12.9 million from the foundation allocation and raised a local share of $6.4 million by a vote of 1,285 to 693.

The district appropriated $632,321 in debt service for schools and raised $302,832 as the local share by a vote of 1,280 to 694.

And the district got the nod to raise $2.5 million in additional local funds by a vote of 1,080 to 890.

The adult education program budget of $48,019 using additional local funds was approved 1,052 to 892.

Finally, the district got the OK to spend $150,000 from the end balance of the operating fund from fiscal year 2003-04 to establish a capital reserve fund to maintain, repair and improve school facilities, by a vote of 1,388 to 584.

In school board elections, incumbent Alan Rich of New Gloucester was re-elected for a second three-year term with 408 votes, and Sharon Vandermay won a seat with 411. Steve Moran lost with 326.

In Gray, Maguire was unseated when newcomers Tami Plummer and Christine Small got 634 and 647 votes, respectively. Maguire got 463.
