SABATTUS – Leon Atlanta Vachon, 83, of 253 Lisbon Road, died Thursday, June 10, at his home.

Born in Farmington Feb. 18, 1921, a son of Atlanta and Marie Castonguay Vachon. He was educated in Canadian schools and attended Sabattus High School. He served in the 5th U.S. Marine Engineering Division World War II Pacific Campaign. He later attended two years of Agricultural College and bought the dairy farm. He owned and operated Valley Farm in Sabattus for 42 years retiring in 1983.

After retirement he spent time with his wife traveling in their motor home throughout the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Vachon was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, American Legion Post 135 of Sabattus.

He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed telling stories of all his travels, expecially Alaska. He was an avid sportsman, he also enjoyed woodworking, making clocks, bowling and cribbage with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 57years, the former Yvonne T. Hamel of Sabattus whom he married April 12, 1947; his children, Diane and Steve Bergeron, Jeannine Davin, Anita and Curt Stewart, Daniel and Lise Vachon, John and Lucy Vachon all of Sabattus; his grandchildren, Angela and Jeff, Jason, Tom, Randy, Calvin, Cameron, James and Theresa, Matthew, Amy, Leon and Sarah, Rachel and Andrew and Justin; six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rita Phelan, Christine Dumais and Mary D’Amour.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marcia Moulin.

He will be sadly missed by his family & friends.
