PORTLAND – Richard C. Baker, 78, of Dryden died at Maine Medical Center on June 10, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 18, 1925, the son of David J. and Stella R. (Lane) Baker in Wilton. He was educated in the schools of Wilton graduating in 1943. He then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater and recieving a purple heart.

He was married to Beverly Fiel in 1946, she passed away in 1955, he then married Maralyn (Kelly) Baker in Dryden July 7, 1962. He started work for International Paper in 1951, acting as Superintendent from 1970 to his retirement in 1985.

He was a lifetime member of the Wilton Fish and Game Club, being an ardent hunter and fisherman who enjoyed gardening and had a great love for the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Maralyn; a daughter, Vickie D. Robbins and her husband Dale of Dryden; two sons, P. Kelley Baker and his wife Sophie of Woolwich and Brian Baker and his wife Wanda of Dryden; seven grandchildren, David, Kenneth, Marcus, David, Sean, Butch, and Athena, five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor, Gavin, Britteney, and Ian; three sisters, Mary-Louise Hobert of Wilton, Jackie Austin of Wilton, and Beverly Macomber of East Wilton; a brother, Robert W. Baker of Perkins Plantation. He was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly; and an infant sister, Marion.
