LIVERMORE FALLS – The town will take the quickest route available to elect a new selectman to replace Doreen Maheux, who resigned Friday.

Town Clerk Kristal Flagg said she expects to have nomination papers ready by June 18, and they will be due back to her by July 7. The election will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, at the fire station.

In another change of time, selectmen voted Monday night to dispense with the late office hours scheduled on the last Wednesday of each month, a convenience measure instituted at the beginning of the year. The later hours had not been used enough to warrant continuing the experiment, they reasoned.

Since the last day of this month will be the end of the fiscal year, the board also agreed to close the office at noon on June 30 to allow town office staff to wrap up business.

Code Enforcement Officer Brenda Medcoff reported that she is continuing her efforts to have dangerous and unsightly buildings on Main, Franklin and Pleasant streets removed. One such building, on Main Street, is now being torn down.

She also reported that Richard Castonguay, who has a licensed junkyard in East Livermore, wants to move his fence closer to the road. That met with disfavor from the board, as the fence is already closer to the road than he should be.

In other business, Medcoff may be allowed to use an old police cruisers for code inspections, instead of using her own vehicle.
